I get asked alot "Rocky, What kind of gear do you travel with when your out? Then I have to start mentioning the computers I carry, why two? Why I pick some items over other and so on. I figured I was long over due for this one and it needed a well deserving blog post. As you may know, I travel extensively for my company. I Work with computers and need to stay connected at all times (I’m pretty much my own ambulatory office) My preference of Choice for computers have always been Macs. I travel with a 13" Macbook Pro (decked out). This thing is fully upgraded with a 320gig hard drive and six gigs of RAM.
I get most of my corporate emails on both of my machines and Blackberry but mostly I carry it as a preference thing. I can very well get my emails on my Acer windows machine however; I don’t have the RAW power of a computer with this as I have with my Mac. I also carry around a net book Acer Aspire One. I use my machine mainly for email purposes and to log into the backbones VPN. Although I could do this on the Mac, sometimes I have to carry my computer from rooms to room for key authentications and well, the Acer PC is only 2 pounds Vs the Mac book Pro 8 pounds. For camera, I use a Cannon 8.2 Megapixel. Its not the best in the industry but it takes good shots and it does the trick.
For camcorders I use a Sony Handy Cam. This thing is so badass. It’s lightweight, slick and elegant. The fact that it has a 4 gig internal memory and also an expandable SD card memory slot, gives the icing to the cake. For portable Internet services I carry a USB connect wifi card from At&t. its 3G is ok for surfing the web and picking up emails but I’m currently looking to replace this device with a mifi from Verizon. I’m hearing lots of good reviews toward the product and the speeds are actually not bad. With Verizon upgrading their network to the 4G technology by the Q1 next year, I want to be ahead of the game and give it a shot.
